Shake the Rattle
I held the rattle above the infants face as they laid on the back. I gently shook it back and forth. I also moved it to each side to watch if the children turned their head or eyes towards the sound. I moved it towards their hands to see if they would also reach for it. If they did not reach for it, I carefully put it in their hand to hold and explore. The older children stood in front of me as I shook it as well. They reached for it, smiled and shook it themselves.

Nature Walk
We took the children for an outdoor buggy walk. We looked at all of the sounds and sights in nature. They used their listening and exploration skills as we walked and talked about all that we saw and heard. As we walked, we picked up a variety of objects along the way. The children used their small motor and sensory skills to touch and explore the leaves, some twigs, a feather, a pine cone and a dandelion.

Chalk Drawing
The children each sat in the high chair. I taped a piece of black paper down on the tray. I gave the infants a piece of colored chalk. They banged it up and down on the paper. Some of the children smeared it back and forth too. They used their hand eye coordination, their small motor and early logic to hold the chalk. They also used their creative and sensory skills to explore the paper and chalk to create a picture.

Put It On (A hat)
The children each let me put a hat onto their heads. They used their sense of self awareness and small motor skills to reach for the hat. They used their early logic and exploration skills to take the hat off to touch and explore it. The only infant that put the hat back on his head was 14 months old. Many of the children also smiled at me when I put the hat onto them.
